Once passed the hill where Manciano lives, we turn left, climbing the little slope that leads to the place called Poggio di Teo and, as usual, we are dumbfounded, fascinated by the beauty of the ancient farmhouse: it is really amazing and it spreads a bursting nobility, never soothed or decayed.

The old people of Manciano, when they tell stories about “Il Poggio di Teo”, they remember that this was the hunting residence of the Count Ciacci, who has many properties in Maremma and his dukedom extended as far as Grosseto. The place was plenty of venison and it was particularly famous for wild boar hunting.
The hills around Manciano and to Saturnia have been the center of many prehistoric finds that demonstrate the human presence in the territory since distant ages. The Thermal baths of Saturnia, situated in the valley in the suburb of Saturnia (8 km from the structure of "Il Poggio di Teo"), are created by sulphurous springs gushing out at 37°C and they are famous for their therapeutic effects.
According to a legend, the Thermal baths of Saturnia would have been formed subsequently to a lightning that the Jupiter casted against Saturn during a quarrel bursted among the two divinities. From the ancient shine of the Thermal baths of Saturnia, a jump in time can be made to the peculiar setting of the Wellness Centre called Poggio di Teo. |
